"Odor di Femina" 1989 Installation at Milford Gallery NYC

This show I called "Odor di Femina" since I was speculating that odors and liquids are the province of women. I simply piled the stuff into the jar and let the viewer do the rest of the meaning-making.Once the viewer starts interpreting, each bowl becomes a little theme park—but not constructed by me. Each bowl is etched with a floral pattern of the type you'd find on a pillowcase, so the surface of the bowl sublimates its contents behind embroidery-type patterns, with a tracing of a face flattened against the glass. The "head in the jar" becomes the head-as-a-jar.
